How we aim to reduce our water use and waste ending up in landfill

Cutting Waste and Water use

Waste - Consider local waste schemes that avoid things ending up in landfill.

- Consider ways of increasing ‘Reduce’ and ‘Reuse’ at church services, in church-based clubs and classes and church events.

- Consider church use of disposable cups and plates, plus options available, especially at events with larger numbers of people.

Recycling - Consider systems and equipment to increase regular recycling.

- Collate a list of all local recycling opportunities.

- Consider being a ‘hub’ of local recycling for community.

- Consider regular-use items eg printer paper, toilet paper, tissue paper etc and recycled paper alternatives.

Water - Find out what measures have been taken already to restrict excessive use?

- Consider any further water-saving measures that can be taken.

What we've done:

October 2021

A survey of our local coffeeshop and fast-food Re-use and Recycling schemes around Kingston Park was conducted, and a comprehensive list of what is available has been compiled.

The information compiled is being shared throughout the community via posters, adverts within the local community magazine and via social media.

April 2022

Recycling bins have been introduced into the worship area and upstairs room for all buildings users, with separate collections of:

- Coffee Cups

- Dry Recycling

- General Waste

Bins will be emptied weekly and all items disposed of appropriately

January 2023

St John's Recycling and Eco event

Community event raising awareness of recycling current good practice and schemes as well as local Eco produce and sellers and an information hub of local eco businesses and services.
